I think the idea of each kid in elementary schools in America having their own computer is great. The only catch is that the computers need to be rugged enough to stand up to children. CTL has unveiled its latest ruggedized netbook aimed at kids in K-8 grade.
The machine has been ruggedized to survive drops and has a water resistant chassis. The system has a 10.1-inch screen and runs on an Intel Atom processor. Storage is to a 160GB HDD and the machine has 1GB of RAM.
Available operating systems
include Ubuntu Linux, Windows XP, and when Windows 7 launches the new OS will be an option. Other features include a built-in webcam and wireless 802.11b/g/n connectivity. Power comes from a 6-cell lithium-ion battery and the machine sells for about $450.
