Capstone CMT-380 hybrid electric supercar

A company called Capstone Turbine shows at the LA Auto Show its CMT-380 prototype hybrid electric supercar which is boosted by the company’s microturbine technology. The car is powered by traditional batteries and an untraditional ultra low emission range extending microturbine. It does 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, 150 mph top speed, and an unheard-of driving range of up to 500 miles on a single tank of fuel.

The CMT-380 features lithium-polymer battery cells that can be charged at home or at a public recharging station. It can can operate on 100 percent battery power in zero emissions mode for a range of up to 80 miles.

2010 Lexus LS600h hybrid

At the Frankfurt motor show, Lexus reveals the 2010 LS600h hybrid car. As Lexus’ flagship, the LS600h gets the full hybrid Lexus Hybrid Drive system that includes a new ECO mode, which modifies the throttle action and performance of the air conditioning system to support fuel-efficient driving.

Lexus’ Hybrid Drive system basically combines the 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine and 165kW electric motor produces a maximum 439bhp and 520Nm of torque, giving nought to 62mph acceleration in 6.3 seconds.CO2 emissions are 219g/km and combined cycle fuel economy remains 30.4mpg. It gets a larger, 380mm ventilated front disc brakes with six-piston callipers, rotors and pads.

2010 BMW ActiveHybrid 7

BMW announced the production version of the all-new BMW ActiveHybrid 7. Based on the newest BMW 7 Series, BMW ActiveHybrid 7 comes with an upgraded twin-turbo, High Precision Direct Injection, V8 engine with a 3-phase synchronous elec¬tric motor gives the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 a combined output of 455 hp and maximum torque of 516 lb-ft (preliminary figures). Power is transmitted via an 8-speed automatic transmission with the electric motor positioned between the engine and the torque converter. The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds (preliminary), while delivering fuel economy approximately 15% better than the 750i.

Like existing BMW 7 Series models, BMW’s first luxury sedan with ActiveHybrid technology will enter the market in two body variants. The extended version of BMW ActiveHybrid 7 has a wheelbase increased by 5.5″, all of which is devoted to the enhanced comfort of rear-seat passengers. Both models are available with a wide range of options from the portfolio of equipment and accessories offered on the BMW 7 Series, enabling the tailoring of the ActiveHybrid 7 to individual tastes and requirements.

BMW ActiveHybrid 7 will premiere at the Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA) in September and will reach America shores in Spring, 2010.

2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6

The BMW X6 ActiveHybrid has arrived, and as previously covered, the new gas-electric X6 will be the most powerful hybrid in history, with 480 peak horsepower and diesel-like plateau of 575 lb-ft of torque.

That impressive powertrain consists of twin electric motors (delivering 91 hp and 86 hp, respectively) and a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. All those horses will be corralled through a seven-speed dual-mode transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The run to sixty will take just 5.4 seconds and the top speed will be limited to 130 miles per hour.

The EPA has yet to test the vehicle, but the German automaker is estimating its X6 Hybrid will return a 20-percent fuel mileage improvement average over the standard twin-turbo X6. That should mean about 18 miles per gallon combined in the States. The official public debut is scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and the sale date is slated for four-quarter 2009.

Furthermore, the HS 250h is used Lexus’ first four-cylinder gas engine and the latest hybrid system to achieve the on minimize emissions and maximize fuel economy. The difference is that the HS 250h Premium models can add an optional Wide-view Front Monitor to help enhance the driver’s ability to see in certain areas around the front of the vehicle by sending images to the navigation system display. while the Standard HS 250h models can also add an optional Touring Package; heated front seats; LED headlamps with Adaptive Front-lighting System, Intelligent High-Beam with headlamp washers; and 18-inch alloy wheels. The 2010 Lexus HS250h hybrid car will be available in August 2009.
